14 karat gold jewelry
Looking for a piece of jewelry that stays beautiful forever? 14 karat gold jewelry retains its beauty for a lifetime. With proper care, it can be passed down as a treasured heirloom. Our 14k collection includes both timeless and contemporary designs. Whether you choose a minimalist piece or a bold statement item, every jewel holds its value and is made to last.
What does 14 karat gold mean?
14 karat means that out of 24 parts, 14 parts are pure gold, which equals 58.5% pure gold. The remaining 10 parts are made up of other metals, such as copper or silver. These are added to make the gold stronger, more durable, and wearable for everyday use. This makes 14k ideal for daily-wear jewelry. In the Netherlands, 14k is the minimum purity that may officially be called “gold,” and it is also the most commonly used gold alloy here. You can read about the difference with, for example, 9 or 18 karat here.
How much is 14k gold worth?
The value of a gold piece depends on its gold content, in other words, its karat weight. Gold prices are based on pure (24k) gold. The higher the karat, the more pure gold it contains, and the higher its intrinsic value.
Gold price per gram
Because 14k gold consists of 58.5% pure gold, its value is calculated based on 58.5% of the total weight. For example, if the price of pure (24k) gold is €96 per gram, then 14k gold would be worth approximately €56 per gram, depending on the current market rate and any processing costs.
Would you like to calculate the value of the gold in your jewelry? Look up the current gold price, for example via this link, and then use the following formula:
Current gold price per gram (24k) × karat percentage = gold price per gram for your piece
Example for 14k: €96 × 58.5% = €56.16
Over the years, despite a few dips and fluctuations, the price of gold has risen steadily. Gold is therefore considered a stable investment. It holds its value well, even in times of economic uncertainty.
Keep in mind that the true value of a piece of jewelry also depends on the complexity of the design and the craftsmanship involved. Gemstones like diamonds or sapphires contribute to its value, as does the rarity of a vintage or one-of-a-kind design.
Which is better: 14k or 18k?
Whether one is better than the other depends on what you are looking for. 18k gold contains a higher percentage of pure gold, 75% to be exact. As a result, an 18k piece is often more expensive, and therefore more valuable, than the same design in a lower karat. In terms of color, 18k gold may appear slightly richer and warmer than 14k, although this depends on the alloy composition. So, which karat is truly best? Both! 14k and 18k are high quality, durable, and will not tarnish over time.
Can you shower with 14k gold jewelry?
Solid gold jewelry is safe to wear daily, including in the shower, without fear of discoloration. Over time, it may appear a bit dull due to soap residue or natural oils, but this can be easily cleaned or polished by a goldsmith. Just be cautious with certain gemstones or pearls, as they tend to be more sensitive to moisture and soap. Read our tips here on how to restore your gold’s shine and keep it looking beautiful.
